This is the first Super Mario set you need, because you need Mario for all the other sets to work. This set is compatible with the Super Mario Lego app. You do need two AAA batteries for Mario to work. This set comes with a buildable Lego figure of Bowser Jr., and it can connect to other Lego Super Mario sets.
